Medieval Madness Castle & Troll Mods
by Bob Frysztak

The Medieval Madness castle really needed to be repainted to see all of the amazing details in the mold, such as the skulls and the rat.  Here is a shot of the castle sitting on the pool table (neutral background):

While the painting turned out marvelous and really added a lot to the overall presentation, I rarely stop there.  So I decided to add a little lighting to jazz it up.  The eyes of the skulls were drilled and micro-LEDs added to give the skulls that extra scary look.  They are tied into the moat flashers, so the skulls eyes flash whenever the castle is hit.  Cool.  In addition, I opened up a few of the "holes" in the castle wall to allow the lighting behind the castle to filter through.  During normal play, they are barely visible.  But whenever a castle is destroyed and the rear flashers are activated, the "holes" become lit and look like explosions through the castle walls from bombs or catapult hits.  Very cool effects.  The shot below is when it was tested on the bench.  More shots installed coming soon.

Since my left troll was not working at all, I decided to dismantle him to find out why.  The switch was bad (broken lugs) and have since been replaced by scavenging some lugs from other switches (since NO ONE has the troll switch in inventory).  While he was all apart, I decided to try lighting him.  LEDs are perfect for this, since they are not affected by ball strikes or other vibrations that would normally trash a regular bulb.  LEDs are also significantly cooler, and perfect for the confined space inside the troll head.  I tried both a white and a green LED in the heads.  The white gives a better overall illumination of the head.  The green LED, while dimmer, does give a better green glow to the head IF you like playing with the room lights off.  Unfortunately, it is not very visible during daylight hours.   Here are a few shots with the room lights (flash) on and off.

More shots to follow soon of the other half of the castle.
